Dining room make-over (and upcycling!)

One man’s trash in another man’s treasure. I love a bit of upcycling and it’s so easy to transform something old and unloved into something wonderful.

We found an old (and rotting) wooden table thrown out on the street and immediately fell in love with it because of its beautiful carved leg (is it still called a leg if it has only one?). It was the perfect size and shape for our little dining area, all it needed was a little TLC.

And after we gave it a brand new floor and a fresh lick of paint, and the upcycled dining table:

Over the next few weeks we kept coming across more old furniture thrown out in the street – people were clearly going through a bit of a Spring cleaning binge! In need of some chairs, we brought home some mis-matched farmhouse chairs to go with our wonky table.

A sunny weekend afternoon of sanding them down with sandpaper, giving them a few coats of anti-wood-worm and finally two coats of white weatherproof paint, they looked as good as new.
