You might think that those picture-perfect glamorous and sophisticated interiors that you come across in hotels, furniture catalogues and interior magazines are unobtainable in real life. Because nobody’s home actually looks like that in real life, right? While it might be unrealistic to expect our homes to look like a catalogue at all times (because life), there are a lot of interior lessons we can pick up that can help transform your space into something sleek, chic and elegant.
Taking inspiration from a few of The Sofa & Chair Company‘s glamorous interiors below, you might notice that the rooms all have a few things in common. Rich fabrics (silk, velvet, cashmere, suede and leather), polished surfaces, chunky table lamps, sculptural ornaments, and edited accessories – and no clutter in sight. Each colour scheme is restful with mostly neutral greys and creams, but with a few metallic accents (either silver or gold) that reflect the lights and add shine and glamour. Beds have luxurious headboards, and pretty benches at the foot of the bed help to create a hotel suite atmosphere, as do armchairs and living furniture in bedroom corners. In living rooms you’ll find fresh flowers (although convincing faux ones will do), lush rugs, abstract paintings and sophisticated ornaments – fossils, agate, coral and vases. Some Chinoiserie wouldn’t be out of place either. Home offices are masculine, with dark woods, upholstered chairs, bookcases and sculptural table lamps (Ron Burgundy would feel right at home with the leather-bound books and smell of rich mahogany.) Dining rooms look formal, with beautiful and inviting upholstered dining chairs.
I’ve put together a few mood boards of stunning furniture, lighting and accessories that will help create a glamorous, sophisticated interior, whatever your style or colour scheme. You might also like How to decorate like an adult, and How to get the interior designed look for less.
