We’ve finally completely finished the house, and I’m so happy! Although the builders moved out in August, I had put decorating on hold to focus on work, so the house has been a little bit bare. We had a home photo shoot last Friday for Your Home magazine, which put pressure on get everything finished!
I went a little overboard with my online shopping, but don’t regret any of it 😉
For the study, I found a round window shaped mirror for above the desk, a papier mache giraffe head from eBay (£250 plus shipping plus an extra £50 on taxes! Yikes!!) and I discovered a fabulous illustrator on Etsy called Janet Hill Studio, which I updated the gallery wall with.
The illustrations are basically of my dream life; having lots and lots of dogs.
On the wall next to it I hung some three-dimensional felt budgie birds from Sew Heart Felt, which I think look adorable.
I also bought a pink chevron rug to add some colour (it’s on sale)!
For the bedroom I found a gorgeous second-hand Kilim rug on eBay for just £30 (plus an extra £25 to get it professionally cleaned as it was very stained and shabby).
Then I made a little teepee for Flora – it’s been on my list of things to do for ages, but I had never got round to it!
The sitting area didn’t need much changing, so I just updated the coffee table books on the shelves and updated the photos in the frames.
I also finally got round to hanging new curtains (from IKEA) in the dining area, and Jonathan made a dining bench from scratch using some of the wood left over from the old shed!
(Yes that’s a llama in the far corner – another treasure I found on eBay)
Then I fixed up the stairs and the entryway, painting the entryway cabinet a zesty yellow (see before & after pictures), hanging up a new large window arch mirror, and upcycling an old lamp into a birdcage lampshade (costs less than £50 – read how to make one yourself)!
I then found some more greenery and bathroom bits for in the bathroom, including this super kitch lady legs dish from Urban Outfitters which I use for earrings and things, but could also be a soap dish.
I also bought some large and pretty matchboxes which were one of the hidden gifts in the DIY advent calendar!
Despite tiding the shelves they still look a little cluttered – thankfully they won’t be making an appearance in the magazine!
The kitchen is just the same old same old <3
I can’t wait to see the feature – it should be coming out in the April issue, which comes out early March. Keep an eye out!
