(Continued from Part I) There are worse places to wake up than the Regnum Carya Golf & Spa Resort in Antalya, and I couldn’t wait for a full day of exploring – and to return back to poolside paradise when we got back!
The hotel arranged a tour guide to show us some of the local sights. Our first stop was the stunning Kursunlu and Düden waterfalls – reminiscent of a Neverland-like lagoon (minus the mermaids), with crystal clear water, pretty streams and impressive waterfalls surrounded by a luscious thick jungle – which you have to walk through to get there!
The sound of the heavy continuous flow of water is so soothing, and interrupted only by birdsong. It’s like leaving the modern world behind and stepping into The Jungle Book.
Having worked up a bit of an appetite, we were taken to Club Arma, a beautiful restaurant perched on a cliffside with uninterrupted views of the bay, the cliffs, the open sea and the mountains in the distance.
We picked a table right on the edge of the cliff, so you could hear the waves crashing beneath you, and watch the boats go by.
The guide we were with explained that the surrounding cliffs were a popular spot for cliff diving! Sadly not on our agenda that day, the crystal clear sea was crying out to be jumped into. Instead of jumping, we dove into some grilled prawns and a bottle of rose instead, and enjoyed a long lazy lunch with panoramic views.
Feeling slightly lethargic with a serious food and wine coma, we decided to perk up with a walk and explored Antalya old town.
As pretty as the town is, the highlight for me was all of the little shops and markets filled with Kilim rugs and other treasures as far as the eye could see!
There were vases, embroidered cushions, blankets, and all sorts of quirky things. I knew I wouldn’t have space in my luggage to take anything back home, but that’s reason enough to come back again – and next time bring an empty suitcase!
By the end of the day of sightseeing, it was time to rest our feet back at the hotel…
I swam up to the pool bar for a(nother) frozen margherita, and soaked up every last ray of sunshine. The weekend had flown by and I couldn’t believe it was time to leave already!
The next morning we were taken back to the airport, and back to reality.
The only solace was being picked up by my little fur ball at the other end!
