Sometimes a quirky, colourful show piece is the finishing touch a room needs. When I renovated my study, I painted the walls, put up a gallery wall, invested in a glass desk and acrylic ghost chair and upcycled a marble sideboard, but the room still looked drab and boring. Enter my papier-mâché ‘lanky giraffe’, a DIY bird cage lamp and some felt budgies and the room is instantly lifted:
